Educational Assessment and Diagnoses | Serving the Greater DFW Area
Diagnostic Learning Services offers comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations to students of all ages. Our services include the following types of evaluations:
- Learning disabilities, including Dyslexia
- Academic strengths and weaknesses
- Learning styles
- Kindergarten readiness
- Language and Communication
- Specific testing to meet College Board/ACT requirements for accommodations on the SAT/ACT and entrance into college disability programs
Types of Assessments
- Intellectual - An intellectual evaluation gives an estimated level of learning potential which includes the ability to adapt, achieve, solve problems, interpret incoming stimuli, and accumulate knowledge.
- Achievement - Achievement is measured through an individually administered, nationally standardized assessment of a student's achievement in the areas of reading, writing, math, listening comprehension, and oral expression. Specific strengths and weaknesses can be identified in each area.
- Dyslexia - Dyslexia is characterized by difficulty reading or decoding single words. Throughout our comprehensive evaluation, we are able to identify students with dyslexia and offer recommendations to help the student be successful in school
- Pre-school/Early Childhood Screenings - Children as young as 3 can be screened for potential academic and educational strengths and weaknesses. Cognitive abilities and potential developmental delays, as well as difficulties in math concepts, dyslexia and pre-reading, and communication skills can also be assessed.
- Language/Communication - Language and communication skills are addressed informally throughout the assessment. If formal assessment is requested, a licensed Speech/Language Pathologist will complete a full language/communication evaluation.
- Pervasive Developmental Disorders - Through a team which includes a licensed psychologist, and educational diagnostician, and a speech therapist, Diagnostic Learning Services also offers evaluations to diagnose Pervasive Developmental Disorders (i.e., Autism, Asperger’s).
After the Evaluation
As part of our services, we offer consultation with the family to review the assessment results. We make several practical recommendations based on the results that will benefit the student and help them to be more successful in school. We offer meetings with school personal to assist in understanding the student’s needs and the implementation of our recommendations. We are also available to parents of students in special education to assist them with understanding the processes involved with that program.
Response to Intervention (RTI)
Diagnostic Learning Services offers direct support to students who require support through the RTI process. Our RTI program includes:
- Tier interventions
- Individualized instruction
- Progress monitoring
- Curriculum written by TEA certified diagnosticians using research based interventions and implemented by certified educators familiar with the RTI process.
- 8-10 Data Points are covered through the Diagnostic Learning RTI program.
